Growing instructions (crisps potatoes)
VR 808 is a mid early variety for the transformation to crisps, developed for the European crisps industry. The tuber set is good in an even grading of round to round oval tubers with a dark yellow skin and yellow flesh. The cooking type is BC with a high dry matter content of 24.3%.
Medium early with a rather early tuberisation.
The VR 808 has a good dormancy period and it is advised to pre-sprout the seed potatoes two to three weeks. Plant with the sprouts just visible on normal depth with a well build ridge.
This variety is only slightly sensitive to spraing and strong against common scab and can be planted on all soil types. The tuberisation is good and the size 35/50 can be planted on 32 cm with ridges of 75 cm. The plants develop well, remain a bit light green and give a good ground cover. The VR 808 is sensitive to a Metribuzin treatment.
This variety requires a normal Nitrate quantity of 230 kg/ha, well adapted to the soil analysis. If possible in three applications, 2/3 before planting and 1/3 if possible in two applications after tuberisation. For Phosphate the normal advice application is recommended. And for Potassium an 80-100 kg/ha higher application is recommended. Take good care of the availability of spore-elements.
Defoliation is generally no problem. Take care of a good skin set and try to minimize tuber damage during the whole process of harvest en handling.
The VR 808 has a good dormancy. After drying and healing, this variety can easily be stored for long time. Take care to start timely with sprout inhibitors.
Resistance to diseases
The VR 808 is resistant to Potato Cyst nematodes Ro1,4 and to wart disease fysio 1. Rather strong against tuber blight, but normal treatments are recommended. Rather strong against common scab and only slightly sensitive to spraing.
