Growing instructions (table potatoes)
Royata is a mid early red skin variety for the traditional markets around the Mediterranean See. The tubers are oval shaped with yellow flesh and a red skin. The cooking type is B with a dry matter content of 19.0%. The variety is cultivated in North Africa and South Europe.
Medium early with early tuberisation.
Royata has an average dormancy and is best received shortly before planting. Planting a bit deeper then normal, with sprouts just visible in not to cold soils gives the best results.
This variety is strong against spraing and common scab and can be planted very well on light soils. The tuberisation is good and normal planting distances are advised. The foliage development is normal and remains a bit low, but with a good ground cover. Royata is not sensitive to a Metribuzin treatment.
Royata develops very well with Nitrate, Phosphate and Potassium fertilisation according the standard advise. Nitrate if possible in a split application of 2/3 at planting and 1/3 after tuber set.
The variety Royata has a relative thin skin and needs sufficient time after haulm killing for skin development. Harvest with care, to minimise the risk of Fusarium.
Royata has an average dormancy and is easy to store. To avoid the development of silver scurf it is advised to start directly with the drying process and to avoid moisture in the storage.
Resistance to diseases
Royata has a broad resistance to Potato Cyst nematodes Ro1, 2 and 3 and is resistant to wart disease fysio 1. Normally treatments against late blight are recommended. Rather good against common scab and strong against spraing.
