General remarks

Everest is an early variety for the traditional markets in the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. The tubers are large, oval shaped with light yellow skin and flesh. The cooking type is AB with a dry matter content of 18.5%.

Maturity

Early with early tuberisation.

Seed treatment

Everest has an average dormancy and can best be planted after a pre germination time of 2 weeks to achieve an earlier crop. Don’t plant in to cold soils, to stimulate a quick emergence. A good treatment against Rhizoctonia is recommended.

Cultivation

This variety can be planted on most soil types, but on lighter soils a good water management is necessary. The tuberisation is generally good, also on more heavy soils. Everest has a good foliage development and is slightly sensitive to a Metribuzin treatment.

Fertilisation

Everest requires an average N-fertilisation of 250 kg/ha well adapted to the soil analysis. If possible 70% at planting and 30% at tuberisation. For Phosphate a slightly higher amount of 150 kg/ha is recommended and for Potassium the normal advice application of 250 kg/ha is recommended.

Harvest

When the plants start to mature, haulm killing can be started to guarantee the requested quality of the harvest. The Everest is relatively sensitive to harvest damage and Fusarium and careful harvesting is necessary.

Storage

Everest has a good dormancy and after a period of wound healing storage is relatively easy.

Resistance to diseases

Everest is resistant, to Potato Cyst nematodes Ro1 and slightly susceptible to common scab and spraing. Average susceptible for late blight and normal treatments are recommended.
